Music

Top Songs:
  • Umbrella - Rihanna ... This was definitely the song of the year ... what do you think? ay, ay, ay
  • No One - Alicia Keys ... This track feels so simple at first, but it has so many layers. Brilliant!
  • Bubbly - Colbie Caillat ... "It starts in my toes, makes me crinkle my nose" ... exactly what you feel when you hear this song
  • Young Folks - Peter Bjorn & John ... also known by my friends as "the whistle song" this was one of the most featured songs on TV shows throughout the year.
  • Crank That - Soulja Boy Tell'em ... Americans are very simple ... give us a song with dance moves and we run with it ... this was the macarena of the 21st century ... everyone from soccer moms to ballet students were doing it and it was all captured by YouTube.
  • Misery Business - Paramore ... This is one song I never get tired of ... Haley has one of the best voices out there. One of my friends saw the band live and said her voice blew them away.
  • Ice Box - Omarion ... I think this song was the new Cry Me a River and really brought Omarion to the forefront as a serious artist.
  • Rehab - Amy Winehouse ... Amy doesn't lie in her songs. She said she's not going to rehab, and that's exactly what she did ... over and over and over again. If you're reading this Ms. Winehouse rehab is great in '08!
  • The Way I Are - Timbaland ... This was the party song of the summer, the only thing is that there are so many different beats in the song that it's hard to just choose one to dance to.
  • Stronger - Kanye West ... My favorite lyric of the year: "Let's get lost tonight. You can be my black Kate Moss tonight." ♥ ♥ ♥
Artists:
  • Paramore ... breakout band of the year!
  • Timbaland ... producer/composer turned platinum-selling artist
  • Mika ... if you haven't heard Grace Kelly, you've been in a cave this year haven't you?
  • Josh Groban ... surpassed Elvis for top-selling Christmas album ever! OMG
  • Alicia Keys ... back on the scene as she is and we ♥ her for it!
  • Rihanna ... gave us the song of the year and a sexy new image (and we like all things sexy; Crossreference previous blog)
  • Feist ... before the now classic iPod commerical few knew who Feist was ... now she's a household name just like the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4
  • Colbie Caillat ... a year ago she worked in a tanning salon and now her song's everywhere ... now that's progress!
  • Chris Brown ... before I didn't like CB at all, but his latest album and new disposition have changed my mind ... who ♥'s CB? me, myself, and I
  • Hannah Montana ... anyone who can get people to come to their concert for thousands of $$$ is having one hell of a year
Videos:
  • Shut Up and Drive - Rihanna ... although Umbrella was her breakthrough hit, this was her hottest video ... not everyone can pull of the hot mechanic girl as well as she did
  • Do It Well - Jennifer Lopez ... although people totally forgot J.Lo had an English album, this video was crazy courtesy of Dave LaChapelle with that 70s superagent vibe ... hot!
  • I'm Like A Lawyer With The Way I'm Always Trying To Get You Off (Me & You) - Fall Out Boy ... this was different from all FOB's recent videos ... it was filmed in Africa and had an actual storyline ... awesome!
  • Falling Down - Duran Duran ... in the video the girl goes to rehab and when she comes out she's back to her old ways; it totally reminded me of all the young Hollywood starlets who were in and out of rehab this year
  • What Goes Around ... Comes Around - Justin Timberlake ... a mini movie featuring Scarlett Johannson; no one does it like JT ;-)
  • Cupid's Chokehold - Gym Class Heroes ... this was the breakout song for GCH; it got so much airplay this year and the video was hilarious
  • Stronger - Kanye West ... who could forget those shades?!?!
  • Get Me Bodied - Beyoncé ... the best video from her anthology
  • Big Girls Don't Cry - Fergie ... who didn't love earthy Fergie shacked up with Milo Ventimiglia???
  • Makes Me Wonder - Maroon 5 ... I ♥ a sharp-dressed man and that's exactly what Adam Levine was in this video (plus, he had that great dance move with the guitar)
CDs You Should Have, But Probably Don't:
  • Cipes and the People - Conscious Revolution ... Bob Marley meets surfer
  • Blake Lewis - Audio Day Dream ... a mashup of 80s pop/dance/hip hop brought into the 21st century
  • The Pierces - Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge ... kind of Feist-esque
  • Jennifer Lopez - Brave ... reminiscent of the 90s pop & dance I grew up on
  • Hilary Duff - Dignitiy ... fun pop dance vibe
  • Duran Duran - Red Carpet Massacre ... just plain cool
  • Collie Buddz - Collie Buddz ... nice dancehall album to have til Sean Paul returns
  • Skye Sweetnam - Sound Soldier ... comparable to Avril since they're both Canadian and sing pop-rock
  • Finger Eleven - Them VS. You VS. Me ... you have to hear "Change the World"
  • Feel the Noise OST ... you probably didn't see this movie (Omarion was in it and J.Lo produced it) ... but you can feel like you did when you hear this reggaeton soundtrack
  • Kelly Clarkson - My December ... boy was there controversy when Kelly released this album; it was really good so give it a listen!
Tour/Concerts:
  • Justin Timberlake - Future Sex Love Show ... my friend saw it & loved it! get the DVD!
  • Spice Girls World Tour ... Spice Up Your Life!

  • The Beyoncé Experience ... didn't see the show, but I'll check out the DVD
  • Young Wild Things Tour ... Fall Out Boy, Plain White T's, Gym Class Heroes, and Cute Is What We Aim For ... HOT ... do you think this will be on DVD?
  • Live Earth ... Al Gore = rockstar
  • Concert for Diana ... the princes put on the concert of the year for the people's princess

  • Superbad ... one word ... McLovin
  • Knocked Up ... Katherine Heigl became more than just a TV doc with this one
  • Into the Wild ... Emile Hirsch & Sean Penn, what more could you ask for?
  • Atonement ... dubbed as the most romantic film since Titanic ... aww
  • Grindhouse ... sexy double feature
  • The Namesake ... Kal Penn's breakthrough role
  • Kite Runner ... one of the best novels-turned-movie of the year
  • High School Musical 2 ... this wasn't on the silver screen, but you would have thought it was with all the press coverage it received
Actors:
  • Shia LaBeouf ... Disturbia, Surf's Up, Transformers and a role in the next Indiana Jones flick ... he's certainly made his mark in '07
  • Emile Hirsch ... started the year with JT in Alpha Dog and ended it with Sean Penn and Into the Wild ... Wow!

  • High-Waisted Pants ... not everyone jumped on this trend, but I loved it ... I hope the store still has them when I go

This Year and the Next

What Made '07 Heaven:

Becks & Posh came to America, Gossip Girl became the OC of the east, JT went on tour, Scorsese won an Oscar, Nicole Richie and Halle Berry became moms-to-be, Ryan Sheckler got a hit MTV show and became legal (as of yesterday), Kevin Federline got a Superbowl commercial, Rachel Zoe wrote a book, Derek Hough joined Dancing with the Stars, Gilmore Girls ended gracefully, Emile Hirsch finally got some long-deserved notoriety, Selita Ebanks got to model the '07 Fantasy Bra for Victoria's Secret, the Spice Girls reunited, Scott Michael Foster starred on Greek, Quarterlife debuted on MySpace TV, I saw Teddy Geiger in concert, girls named Delilah got their own theme song, people spent thousands to see Hannah Montana live, Rihanna became a style star, my friend went to LA, Shia LaBeouf became the hottest thing in Hollywood

Why '08 Will Be Great:

Carlos Bernard will return to 24 (who cares if he's rogue), One Tree Hill goes 4 years into the future, Becks and Posh will continue to set the trends, the Jolie-Pitts will continue to be the coolest globe-trotting family on the planet, Suri Cruise will set the trends for toddlers everywhere, Perez Hilton will continue to be the queen of all media, and Ace Ave will be great in '08

Here's to '08!

Sexy News = Sexy Blog

I spent the last weekend of 2007 watching The Black Dahlia and The Departed. The common thread between these stories, other than their unpredictability, was they both had some truth to them. This got me thinking, "Why are people still so interested in these stories?" (The Black Dahlia moreso than The Departed since it took place in the 1940s and the Departed's fairly recent.)

Why so interesting? One word ... sexy. In the special features of both movies it was mentioned that these stories were "sexy." The Black Dahlia was sexy. Gangsters are sexy. This got me thinking ... if people respond to sexy stories, maybe sexy news = sexy blog.

Now here's the thing. Different people consider different things to be sexy so take my quiz: Sexy or Not?

(1) Justin Timberlake
(2) Election '08
(3) England
(4) Gossip Girl
(5) Britney Spears
(6) Superbowl
(7) Geeks
(8) 24
(9) Kevin Federline
(10) Umbrellas
(11) Amy Winehouse's beehive and makeup
(12) The 80s
(13) Victoria's Secret
(14) Jamie Lynn Spears
(15) TMZ

Now for my answers ...

(1) JT: Of course ... he did bring it back in '06 making us all LoveStoned

(2) Election '08: one woman vs. many men ... getting hotter!

(3) England ... birthplace of Becks & Sting ... what do you think!

(4) Gossip Girl ... sexiest cast on TV

(5) Britney Spears ... not unless she cleans up her act

(6) The Superbowl reeks of sexy ... sexy footballers, sexy sports fans, sexy commercials, sexy halftime show ... what more could you ask for

(7) Geeks are the sex ... i.e. McLovin

(8) Saving the world in 24 hours is always sexy, especially when the one doing the saving is Kiefer Sutherland

(9) You probably said no for Kevin, but I say yes. He's on One Tree Hill in '08. OTH = Sexy so Kevin = Sexy

(10) Umbrellas = very sexy, especially when being toted by certain pop stars from Barbados

(11) Amy's beehive & makeup ... old school glamour brought into the new millenium ... sexy!

(12) The 80s ... leggings, Flashdance, Dirty Dancing, John Hughes, shoulder pads, neon, I was born ... sexy, duh!

(13) Vicky S ... now that's a no-brainer

(14) Jamie Lynn ... stealing the headlines from your big sis amid a who's the real daddy scandal, now that's never not sexy

(15) TMZ ... home of sexy celeb scandals and the even sexier blonde guy (does anyone know his name???)

Sexy is the new blog!

Ace
