Play It Like Ace - Spring Break Edition!

This week I had Spring Break so I pretty much accomplished nothing I planned to do. Work is still left undone and I only have 3 more days left to do it.

What I did manage to do this week rather successfully was listen to music. I don't know if it's because 4 of my friends are turned 20 this week, but I felt a little nostalgic for those boybands I used to listen to when I was a tween. All week I listened to the boy bands of the new teenybopper generation ... NLT (American) and Lexington Bridge (European).

Here's the list:
  • NLT - That Girl
  • NLT - So Sensational ("what she's selling, yo I'm buying" ... so cheesy, but so hot)
  • NLT - Superstar (total ripoff of NSYNC's "Celebrity")
  • NLT - Heart Attack
  • NLT - Heartburn
  • Lexington Bridge - Real Man
  • Lexington Bridge - Hook Up
  • Lexington Bridge - Tear It Up
  • Lexington Bridge - Alisha (totally reminds me of LFO's "Alayna")
  • Lexington Bridge - Other Girls
  • Lexington Bridge - Vibrate (great to jump around to nonstop)
Of course I didn't solely listen to boy bands all week.
  • Madonna & Justin Timberlake - 4 Minutes
  • Britney Spears - Break the Ice (Fabolous Remix)
  • Stefanie Heinzmann - My Man is a Mean Man
  • Stefanie Heinzmann - Masterplan
  • Stefanie Heinzmann - Can't Get You Out of My System
  • Stefanie Heinzmann - I Betcha She Doesn't Feel It
  • Stefanie Heinzmann - Like a Bullet
  • Fall Out Boy & John Mayer - Beat It
  • Gavin DeGraw - I'm In Love With A Girl
  • Cherish - Killa
  • Timbaland - Bounce

You Decide the Next Amy Winehouse

For some reason everyone's trying to find the new Amy Winehouse. Some think it's Duffy while others (i.e. me) thinks Stefanie Heinzmann has a shot at the title. What do you think?

Watch TV and Movies the 21st Century Way

Last week the website hulu.com officially launched. On hulu you can watch clips and full episodes/screenings of your favorite TV shows and movies. I was browsing through their movie list and noticed that Undiscovered is on it. Undiscovered came out 3 years ago. It stars Steven Strait (from 10,000 B.C.), Pell James, Kip Pardue, and Ashlee Simpson. It's about the love - fame - acting - rock & roll life that is LA. Check it out when you get the chance:

Must See TV: Dancing with the Stars:: Season 6

Hey guys,
Just a reminder that the 6th season of Dancing with the Stars kicks off tonight on ABC at 8pm.
This year I'm rooting for Kristi Yamaguchi (the Olympic Gold medalist and World Champion) and Mario (the singer). I'm also can't to see how Priscilla Presley and Shannon Elizabeth will do.
Who are your early faves?
xoxo,
Ace

Sunday Singer Spotlight: Cameron Cooke

Hey guys,

There's a singer I found on MySpace by the name of Cameron Cooke. He has one of the best covers of Umbrella that I've heard in a long time. He has a great song called Unbreakable Heart and the hooks of his songs are really catchy.

Check him out: MySpace profile

friend him, download his Umbrella demo, tell him he's awesome, etc.

Remember to tell him Ace Avenue sent you! ;-)

xoxo,
Ace

Huh?

I'm not a huge Jonas Brothers fan or anything, but I did friend them on MySpace. I saw this in a bulletin they posted:

Play It Like Ace - Ides of March Edition!

If you don't know what the ides of March is, I suggest you stop reading my blog and go read some Shakespeare (or at least Wikipedia).

Here's what I've been spinning all week as I studied for midterms:
  • Gavin DeGraw - I'm in Love With A Girl
  • Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love
  • Stefanie Heinzmann - Masterplan
  • Stefanie Heinzmann - Like a Bullet
  • Stefanie Heinzmann - I Betcha She Doesn't Feel It
  • Stefanie Heinzmann - Free Love
  • Sarah Bareilles - Love Song
  • Kanye West - Flashing Lights
  • David Cook - Eleanor Rigby (cover)
  • Jade Valerie - Empty Pages
  • Jade Valerie - Like a Bird
  • Jade Valerie - Living By Numbers
  • Jade Valerie - Out in the Sea
As you can see I've been listening to a lot of Stefanie Heinzmann and Jade Valerie this week. They're both new artists I discovered online. Stefanie is Amy Winehouse meets Joss Stone. As for Jade, from what I see on her MySpace, she's big in Japan. Check 'em on out!

The Funniest Thing I've Read All Day ...

All day I've been writing my part of a campaign for one of the many clubs I joined last year. I've finally sent it off to the pres so I'm now officially on Spring Break. This couldn't have come at a better time; I hear Joe Francis is a free man these days ... not that I'm one of "those" girls. ;-) Daddies lock up your daughters!

The first thing I did as I started my vacation was kick back with the March issue of Glamour and watch TMZ on TV, an hour of the news, LX TV (more Pedro Andrade's abs than the show), and Access Hollywood. Now that I'm done paging through the mag I'm back online. I just finished reading the blog Sarah Morrison posted on Sunday and it's hella funny. Here's my favourite part:

-Some girl writes me on Myspace insisting i have my own reality show. I acknowledge that it would be good television. I inform her that i have no idea how to acquire a reality show. I go, "What if i just show up in Times Square at TRL with "I heart Carson Daly" posters?" I'll then just act totally devastated when i find out he no longer works there. I go, "I will throw myself on the ground screaming and crying." That will have to get me at least on TV.

Wouldn't that be a great way to get on TV? That Sarah, pure genious I tell ya!

Spring Ahead!

Dear readers,

Remember to set your clocks ahead an hour before you go to bed & be sure to check those smoke & carbon monoxide detectors too.

EyeCatching Music in Action

Once upon a time I thought I would be a music video director. Then I decided to become a publicist (thanks Orlando! ;-) and L's cousin).

There are so many new vids out right now, but here are the ones that have caught my eye:

Tila Tequila: Stripper Friends

Not the kind of song you'd expect me to like, I'm sure. I love this song. I even walked around campus singing the hook a few days ago.

Enrique Iglesias: Push (Step Up 2 Remix) ft Lil Wayne

Surprisingly, I think Enrique's video for Push is more scandalous than Tila's video. Watch and see why.

Kanye West: Flashing Lights

This latest video from everyone's favorite college dropout caused a stir in the blogosphere a while back. I've seen what everyone's talking about and so should you.

Jonas Brothers: When You Look Me In The Eyes

Okay, I'm not too crazy about this video, but my friends and an 11 and 3/4 year old girl I know do. I don't see what's so awesome about it, but here it is.

Gnarls Barkley: Run

I know I posted this on Thursday, but it was so good I had to post it again. Remember it can cause seizures so viewers beware!

Jesse McCartney: Leavin'

Last but not least, I must post a video from my Westchester homeboy Jesse McCartney. Because of him I have been getting a lot of traffic on Ace Ave for my JMac on JDate post. To the disappointment of my friend Jynx I will not be joining JDate to thank him, but Jesse if you're reading THANKS! ♥ ♥ ♥

Now here is Jesse's latest called Leavin. This video is kind of the more grown up version of his last video Right Where You Want Me. It's so hot; even Perez Hilton likes it. His 3rd album will be coming out in a few months so be on lookout for that, but if you forget, Ace is always here to remind you. ;-) Enjoy.

Ace & Out

Play It Like Ace -- 3/8/08

Here's what I've been listening to this week:
  • Kanye West - Flashing Lights
  • Lupe Fiasco - Superstar
  • Kate Voegele - Top of the World
  • Gavin DeGraw - I'm In Love With A Girl
  • Groove Armada - Superstylin'
  • Enrique Iglesias - Push ft Lil Wayne
  • Jesse McCartney - Leavin'
  • Flo'Rida - Elevator
  • Cherish - Killa
  • Tila Tequila - Stripper Friends
  • Britney Spears - "The Black Is Out (Live on Tour)" ---> that's not a real album; Google Blog Search it and I'm sure you'll find it
What will I be listening to as the clock strikes 3/9/08 and I lose an hour of Midterm study time ... you'll just have to wait and see

From the Archives: Helen Keller

After 120 years, a photo of Helen Keller with Anne Sullivan (her teacher) has been uncovered. Taken in 1888, this photo has only been published twice. It features Keller holding a doll; "doll" is also the first word that Sullivan taught her to spell out.

Aww, Not My Johnny Castle

When I got home from school last night I got the news that Patrick Swayze has pancreatic cancer. I was even teary-eyed because Dirty Dancing is my favorite movie of all time. This morning on the news I heard the statement his docotor released:

"Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the time frame of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic."

Swayze's rep says that he is continuing to work on his projects including a pilot for A&E.

Glad to know he's doing well.

** Best wishes from Ace Ave **

A Video So Crazy It Causes Seizures

All morning I've been hearing that MTV banned Gnarls Barkley's new music video Run. Apparently when you watch this vid on an HD television, it enhances the effects so much that it can trigger seizures. I knew those TVs were no good!

Anyway, here's the video for Run with surprise guest Justin Timberlake (you know that's why I bothered to watch it).
